We are incredibly excited to show our first images of The Onyx, Rize’s new office/retail building starting construction in early 2019 at the heart of The Terminal District. With a striking architectural expression, transit node adjacency and 20,000 sf floor plates over 13 storeys, we are confident that The Onyx will cement its position as the cornerstone of this quickly evolving neighbourhood.
Situated adjacent to the Main Street/Science World SkyTrain station, just South of the Pacific Central Station, the building appears in great contrast to its historic neighbour, strong in character and striking in its balance of light and dark. With a translucent, shimmering black exterior – like the stone it takes its name from – The Onyx’s interior spaces, by careful contrast, draw in sunlight and radiate warmth.
“We compare the potential of this area to Seattle’s South Lake Union or the Bay Area of San Francisco. We envision the future of the Terminal District’s energized urban streets and waterside beauty to represent the ultimate amenity for this quickly evolving area of Vancouver.” says Will Lin, CEO of Rize.
The Onyx is very well positioned as a connector between a number of well established neighbourhoods such as Chinatown, Strathcona and Mount Pleasant. It is also a premium site on the edge of two burgeoning neighbourhoods, False Creek Flats to the East and the final phase of the False Creek Waterfront to the West. Its convenience and vibrancy make it feel like an extension of Downtown; its livability and wise planning for the future make it feel visionary on a global scale.
“This building marks the evolution of The Terminal District into a hub for visionary businesses and professionals. With its central location, vibrant atmosphere and proximity to transit, The Onyx will provide companies and employees an ideal setting to maximize productivity and do their most creative, innovative work, while establishing themselves in what will surely be Vancouver’s next ‘it’ neighbourhood.” said Marco DiPaolo, Executive Vice President with Colliers International in Vancouver
This area is poised to be the home of big thinkers across a range of disciplines, transforming this already cool, arterial locale into the future-forward heart of the city. Construction of The Onyx is expected to begin in early 2019, with the building ready for occupancy in Summer 2021.
