As 2011 comes to a close, we are taking some time to look back at the projects and initiatives we’ve worked on this year.  We’re pleased with the progress of our development projects, and we’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to showcase local entrepreneurs and artists through our various community initiatives.  2011 has also been our first formal year of Rize blogging, Tweeting and Facebooking, with a large volume published on our projects, neighbourhoods and interests.

Here’s a summary of what we’ve been up to throughout 2011 and a sneak peek of what you can expect from us in 2012.

Rize Mount Pleasant

This past March, we opened our doors at Rize Mount Pleasant. Located at the corner of Kingsway and 10th Avenue (one block south of Broadway), Rize Mount Pleasant welcomed entrepreneurs to our pop up retail space and artists through the Kingsway Art Collective. We also connected with a large number of local residents, while providing info on the proposed redevelopment of our Kingsway and Broadway site and receiving great feedback on the proposal

We have also been very happy with the response to the food bank donations at Rize Mount Pleasant and would like to thank our neighbours and employees for a great turnout.

We welcomed our homeowners to OnQue, — a 48-unit, four-storey mixed-use building located on the southwest corner of East Broadway and Quebec Street. This property is nearly sold out, and we are very pleased with the feedback we’ve received about the project’s ‘OnePlusOne’ concept. Homeowners love having the flexibility that OnQue offers. It was fun joining the diverse and tasty SoMa neighbourhood.  We are also excited to have two businesses completing their improvements with expectations to open in early 2012.

There are still a few homes available, so please visit the OnQue website for more info.

The Rolston

The Rolston - Rize AllianceThis year, we started construction of The Rolston, a key component of the City of Vancouver’s revitalization plans for the north end of the Granville Street Bridge. Construction teams are busy as we work to complete the underground parking structure of the building, moving above grade (with our well decorated crane) in the spring.  Our limited-time construction start sale was a huge success as we welcomed more new homeowners to the Rolston.

We’re proud to have partnered with Vancouver’s Cause + Affect on The Rolston’s interior design.  When we recently caught up with Cause + Affect’s Steven Cox, he explained that his objective for the project’s interior design was to make the space feel as big as possible and provide as much flexibility for homeowners to make the place their own.

Also, the renovation of the adjacent Yale hotel started in December. With just over a year of major life-safety upgrades to this 1888 structure, Vancouver’s famous musical mecca for rhythm and blues will once again be entertaining Vancouverites.

Stay tuned for more updates about The Rolston in the New Year. We expect the project to be completed by spring 2013.

Terminal Offices

We’re thrilled to announce that we are now starting construction on Terminal Offices, a campus-style commercial building on Terminal Street. The project will be a great mix of office and retail along a formerly underutilized and definitely pedestrian un-friendly thoroughfare.

Terminal Offices will offer convenient access to SkyTrain and Highway 1, making it ideal for businesses and their employees. It’s exciting to be a part of the growth of Terminal St — there are some cool things to come in this part of the city.

Soon we’re starting excavation and shoring for Terminal 1, and we expect Terminal Offices to welcome businesses starting spring of 2013.
